When the post-release work on Surmount had finally dried up and I finished the Switch port of Berry People, I really just wanted to work on some smaller games again. I had written down some different ideas for smaller game mechanics during work on Surmount so after some R&R I somehow found myself back at the computer again to explore them in prototyping. In the end they were all built in different game engines, but I have no clue why I did that. The weirdness surrounding Unity around that time probably had something to do with it.
Anyway, here are three little game prototypes for you to enjoy! Let me know which one you like best!
MINBALL
Godot | Minimal Pinball Game | Play Online | Download for Windows
Left and Right arrows control the flippers and with the * arrow you can halt the ball midair for extra control. Submit your scores to the online leaderboards!
It's just the part of pinball I like best! Exploring a board and finding out how it flows. No complex scoring mechanics and no gutters to make you lose your ball! Small pinball boards that are filled with little dots for you to collect and you complete it when you have collected all of them!
SHRIMP
Unreal Engine | First Person Zoomer | Download for Windows
A first person platformer that gives you a couple very powerful launches that you can use to get just about anywhere. Grab onto specially colored walls to reach even higher areas.
Based on a dream I had about jumping from wall to wall at high speed. Level design for this was a very nice puzzle since the player has so many powerful movement options.
CROSSWALK
PICO-8 | Lost Arcade Classic | Play Online | Download for PICO-8
Cross the large grid filled with blocks! Blocks disappear as you cross over them, try to make as many blocks disappear as possible in one go! Make sure you don't get stuck or you just might have to fall to your doom!
Just a simple little game! I didn't have time for any kind of menu, but the P8 file is super easy to edit with pico-8 yourself! Just toggle some booleans at the start of the file to play different iterations!
